“SAVE SEUTHOPOLIS” CAMPAIGN TO START THIS FALL

Bulgarian youth NGO and world famous architect with project for exhibiting the ancient city of the Thracians

A national campaign for exhibiting, preserving and reconstructing Seuthopolis, the unique city of the Thracian king Seuthes the 3-rd, starts in Bulgaria this fall. The initiative aims to return the first and most preserved Thracian city in Bulgaria into the treasure house of world cultural heritage. Now this incredible ancient symbol is 20 m. deep into the waters of “Koprinka” dam, near the city of Kazanlak, Central Bulgaria. The campaign is organized by a team of motivated young people and their organization- the NGO National Union “Treasure the Bulgarian heritage”. The initiative for saving Seuthopolis is a part of a fantastic project, made by the world famous Bulgarian architect, Mr. Jeko Tilev for reconstructing Seuthopolis and turning it into an archeological landmark.

Seuthopolis is keeping one of the most precious data about the life and the culture of the Thracians, it is a remarkable place, part of the world cultural heritage, which now can be exhibited, preserved and made into a museum and tourist destination. The city is a part of the so called Valley of the Kings and its meaning for the world historical and cultural heritage is measurable to the Pyramids in Egypt. Since the city was found /in 1948/, Seuthopolis attracts scientists, tourists and medias. In July 2007 “Discovery channel” made a special film about the Valley of the Thracian kings in Bulgaria with unique pictures of the city underwater.

Seuthopolis, the capital of the ancient state of Odrissia, (end of IV c. BC.) was discovered and explored in 1948 – 1954 during the construction of the ‘Koprinka” dam. Unfortunately, after the dam was filled with water the first and the best preserved Thracian city in Bulgaria remained on the bottom of the artificial lake. This mistake, from the times of historical and national nihilism, can be corrected today by the “Save Seuthopolis” campaign.

The first stage of the “Save Seuthopolis”- „A city under water” has already begun with spreading information about Seuthopolis in medias, governmental institutions and companies in Bulgaria and worldwide. By the end of October starts the second stage- finding interested companies, people, organizations, inviting world medias to help for exhibiting and reconstructing the Ancient City of The Thracians.
